The petition for a public consultation on the state of Urban Agriculture in Montreal was successful!

In total, 25082 Montrealers have signed the petition within the last three months and thus the required number of 15000 signatures to have a public consultation was by far exceeded. The GTAU (group de travail en agriculture urbaine) became the first group to successfully claim the right of initiative. Thanks go out to all the people who put lots of energy and effort into helping to acquire the signatures. The city of Montreal is now obligated to hold a public consultation on the topic in 2012.

Way back in 1997, a group of neighborhood activists got together to address the issues of poverty, food security, and the environment. Through a number of creative community partnerships, The Victory Garden Network blossomed in the borough of Notre-Dame-de-Grâce, becoming the first collective garden initiative in Montreal.
